Step 1:

  • This is your box.
  • In your box you have a knife, 1 ball of clay, a heavy duty toothpick, and bubble wrap.
  • Take out your clay and tools

Step 2:

  • Grab a piece of paper or cardboard and draw out your shape.
  • We used a heart but you can do any shape you like.
coil3

Step 3:

  • Get your clay and break off a small handful.
coil4

Step 4:

  • Begin rolling out a long coil or snake, take your time, keep it smooth.
coil5

Step 5:

  • When your coil is long enough and small enough around, lay it on your shape lines.
coil6

Step 6:

  • Anywhere you put your outside coil together make sure to scratch both surfaces and use a small amount of water to push them together and smooth out.
coil7

Step 7:

  • Take similar amounts of clay and create more coils. Wrap the coil up like a cinnamon roll and fit them inside your shape.
coil8

Step 8:

  • Slowly fill the interior of your shape with your swirls.
coil9

Step 9:

  • Using small coils or different shape clay balls completely fill in the interior of your shape.
coil10

Step 10:

  • Use your fingers to push all of your coils and shapes down and together.
  • Make sure not to erase your lines, they are important to the look of your masterpiece.
coil11

Step 11:

  • Use the paper or cardboard to flip your shape over, go slow and be careful.
coil12

Step 12:

  • Take your wood knife and use the round end to smooth out the bottom and connect all of your clay together.
  • Important! This will make sure it doesn’t fall apart.
coil13

Step 13:

  • You can use a small amount of water to smooth out more with your finger or a paintbrush.
  • No puddles!
coil14

Step 14:

  • Flip it over and check it out, wrap it up and return your box.
  • Make sure to pick out a great color.

Congratulations!

Once you’ve finished, carefully wrap it in the bubble wrap. Then put it back in the box that it came in, you may put some newspaper or plastic bags around it so it won’t move around. Before returning it to Mighty Mud, make sure you write your name, phone number, and color choice on the front of the box.

We will fire your clay in a bisque kiln, glaze it and place it in another kiln, and give you a call when your project is ready for pick-up!

If you’ve chosen “No Color” you can paint it at home using acrylics, watercolors, or spray paint.

Pick-up and drop-off hours: Tuesday – Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm
